Comparison Shop

Familiar with unit prices? They’re found on just about every item in your local grocery store, and they provide a ton of info about how much you’re actually paying when you shop. Smaller items may seem cheaper, but when you factor in the unit price, you’re usually better off buying bigger (especially when it comes to non-perishable items).

Consider how often you buy milk, and how much you buy each time. If a half gallon of milk costs $2.66 or $0.04/oz and a gallon costs $3.18 or $.03/oz, then the gallon of milk has way better value and keeps you from making an extra run to the store mid-week!

Next time you’re at the market, check price tags for a small box with the words “unit price” and compare the prices of similar items before you buy. A little savings on a lot of items will go a long way!
