Xceed Financial Awards $11,000 in College Scholarships to Outstanding Young Members
Annual Scholarship Programs Reward Both Academics and Community Service
El Segundo, California (July 2017) – Xceed Financial presented ten accomplished young members with $1,000 scholarship checks to help pay for college. These Romeo Doty Scholarships, presented annually and named for a long-time Xceed Board member who dreamed of making higher education accessible for all students, drew many impressive applicants from across the country. The Credit Union also honored a young member who is the daughter of an Xceed associate with its $1,000 Chairman’s Xcellence Scholarship — another annual award that demonstrates the Credit Union’s support for associates and their families.
“As our members’ financial partner, we’re huge supporters of financial education, but we think education in all of its forms is invaluable,” said Xceed Financial President and Chief Executive Teresa Freeborn. “We’re thrilled to help these eleven very accomplished young people pursue their dreams.”
Honorees were chosen by the Credit Union’s scholarship committee which considered information submitted by finalists and their schools. All entrants were required to have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 and were evaluated based on academic performance, as well as extracurricular activities in their school and community. Each student also wrote an essay about their personal experiences in learning to manage their finances and shared their thoughts about the steps they think young people should take to begin the journey toward financial independence.
