Credit Union’s Scholarship Program Now Tops $120,000 in Cumulative Awards
El Segundo, California (June 2016) – Ten young members of Xceed Financial Credit Union recently got the great news that each of them will receive $1,000 to help pay for college through Xceed’s Romeo Doty Scholarship program. Named for a long-time Board member, Romeo Doty, who dreamed of making higher education accessible for all students, the program has awarded more than $120,000 in scholarship money to students nationwide since its inception. At the same time, a young member who is also the daughter of an Xceed associate was honored with the Credit Union’s $1,000 Chairman’s Xcellence Scholarship.
“Each of our eleven scholarship winners has an impressive record of achievement and service, and we’re proud to support them as they embark on the next chapter in their academic lives,” said Xceed Financial President and Chief Executive Teresa Freeborn.
Honorees were chosen by the Credit Union’s scholarship committee which considered information submitted by finalists themselves and their schools. All entrants were required to have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 and they were evaluated based on academic performance, as well as extracurricular activities in their school and community. Each student also wrote an essay sharing their thoughts on what credit unions can do to remain competitive in an environment where technology is evolving so rapidly.
